Pet care, on schedule
Deworming, heartworm prevention, vaccines, fluids at home, nails, baths and litter. For anything medical we only cover keeping records and reminders — the schedule itself always comes from your vet.
How often should you change cat litter?
Scoop at least daily. Replace clumping litter every 1–4 weeks and non-clumping litter about weekly — plus how many boxes, how deep, and how to wash the tray.
How often should you deworm and flea-treat cats and dogs?
Deworming depends on risk: ESCCAP advises at least 4 times a year when risk is unclear, up to monthly. Flea and tick control runs all year. Ask your vet.
How often do cats and dogs need vaccines?
Kittens and puppies need a series of shots; adult core vaccines are often boosted every 3 years, shorter-lasting ones yearly, and rabies follows local law.
How often do cats need subcutaneous fluids?
There’s no standard schedule for subQ fluids in cats: your vet sets how often and how much. How to follow the plan at home, what to log and mistakes to avoid.
How often is heartworm prevention given?
Heartworm prevention is usually monthly (chewable or topical) or an injection every 6 or 12 months, given year-round, plus a yearly test for dogs.
How often should you bathe a dog?
Most healthy dogs need a bath every 1–3 months; bathing too often can irritate skin. Plus low-shedding breeds, puppies, water temperature and medicated baths.
How often should you trim your cat’s or dog’s nails?
Most indoor cats need a nail trim every 2–4 weeks and most dogs about once a month. How to tell nails are too long, avoid the quick, and stop bleeding.
